In order to record an HTTP session, Load Tester re-configures the system proxy settings so that it acts as a proxy for the browser. On some systems, security restrictions do not allow Load Tester to make this change to the system. This article shows how to determine if this is the case.

First, determine the normal network configuration for your machine:

1) Shut down Load Tester if it is running.

2) In WIndows settings, search for the Proxy settings. The specific location of these settings vary depending on the Windows version.

3) Note the current settings - write them down or take a screenshot. Specifically, note if the Automatically detect settings or manual Use a Proxy Server features are turned on. If Use a Proxy Server is turned on, note the address and port.

4) Close the settings

Next, determine if Load Tester is able to change the settings:

1) Start Load Tester

2) Start a recording with Internet Explorer or Chrome

3) Go back to the Proxy settings.

If Load Tester was able to set the proxy settings, then Use a Proxy Server should be turned on. If it was on initially, it should remain on. The proxy address should be 127.0.0.1 and the ports should be 2525 (HTTP) and 2526 (Secure/SSL).

If these settings have not been set, then Load Tester will not be able to record until you manually change the proxy settings. Don't forget to reset them when you are done recording!

Contact your network administrator to see if security restrictions are preventing Load Tester from changing the settings.
